Brussels Summit

RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - Russia and, for the first time, China are at the top of the list of concerns for NATO, along with new threats in space, cyber attacks, terrorism and the rise of totalitarian regimes.

The Brussels summit ended with a 45-page statement in which the Allies draw red security lines.

Russia remains the main source of concern, and President Klaus Iohannis said he was pleased that NATO was consolidating its eastern flank.

The RRA envoy, Oana Bala, reports: "Through the decisions taken at the NATO summit, the security of Romania and its citizens is better ensured, said President Klaus Iohannis and specified that our country has achieved its major objectives set for this meeting.

Klaus Iohannis: I emphasize the need for the process of strengthening the Alliance's position of deterrence and defense to focus primarily on the eastern flank as a whole, in a coherent manner, with special attention to security developments at the Black Sea. The Alliance must have the strength, structures and capabilities to respond effectively to the threats we face in the region.

On the other hand, the head of state announced that he invited the American president, Joe Biden, to Romania in order to continue the discussions started in 2015, when he came to our country as vice president of the United States of America. President Klaus Iohannis also told his American counterpart that he wants to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries. In another discussion with President Joe Biden, which was also attended by Polish President Andrzej Duda, the White House leader assured that he is very involved in supporting Romania and Poland on NATO's eastern flank.
