Avalanche risk level 4 out of 5 in the Făgăraș Mountains

radiojurnal

The avalanche risk in the Făgăraș Massif (the highest mountains in Romania) has increased at altitudes above 1,800 meters, and is now at level 4 out of 5.

The risk zone also includes the Bâlea Lake tourist area, where the snow layer is over 120 centimeters.

Mountain Rescuers advise tourists to avoid hiking on crest trails.

There are lots of tourists who want to get to Bâlea Lake to visit the Hotel of Ice, the only one of its kind in Romania. They are queuing at the cable car departure station to climb up to 2000 meters altitude in the Făgăraș Mountains.

This is the only way to access Bâlea Lake starting from Bâlea Cascadă, after the Transfăgărășan high-altitude road was shut down until the summer. This year, the theme of the Ice Hotel is music, and the 15 rooms were decorated with snow sculptures representing Romanian and international music stars.

Mountain rescuers from Sibiu County recommend the tourists who climb in the area that they should stay near the chalets and the Ice Hotel and not venture around the surrounding slopes.
